When I went to school, long ago, the English teachers mentioned George Orwell and other authors.  At that time, I just wanted to pass the course AND the significance of propaganda and  other errors  ...did not register.  Many years later ..older and wiser  .. browsing thru bookstore  ..I saw the book 1984 and a Cliff Notes (Spark  Notes or equivalent)  ..purchased both    ...and after several weeks finally had some idea of what  was happening.
